This one actually came from a true story. Sailors along the gulf coast
are aware that you can no longer buy a spiral bound chart kit for our area,
even though kits are available for all other parts of the country. The
reason for this, as I understand it, is that a certain knumbskull struck an
underwater obstruction which did not appear on the chart. It was probably
listed in the notices to mariners, but who reads those?
The knumbskull in question decided that, since the corps. of engineers
had not surveyed the whole of u.s. waters every two weeks, he would sue
everybody. If you haven't yet been named as a defendant, you probably haven't
checked the mail today.
Consequently, the company which went to the trouble of assembling all the
charts relevant to the gulf coast, putting them in a logical and convenient
order, and selling them at a price which is much cheaper than the cost of
individual charts, has now decided that it's not worth the bother for our
area. THANKS NIMROD!
