Mesquite and cactus were a constant enemy
Being raised in the 50's on a hard scrabble Cattle ranch left some valuble lessons on me. The chief thing I learned was I didn't want to be no Texas Cattle rancher. Living with cows that had to be checked ever 3 days for screw worms. 2 or 3 times a year we had a round up, this is where we cut, brand, castrate and mark the calfs. My dad passed when he was 47 with bone Cancer, My brother and I took up the work at the ranch. Mother had an 18 month old baby to care for so she came to the field with babe in arms.

My dads brand was the Bar T, with the Bar over the T, severial years later my mother remarried a man who also carried the Bar T. His brand was a bar followed by the T.
